Stepping into the Bamboo Forest, Tracing the Source of Our Original Aspirations – Valu Textile Team's Sichuan Bamboo Forest Journey
In March, southern Sichuan is ablaze with newly sprouted bamboo. A core team of over twenty members from Wofang Textile embarked on a special journey to trace the origins of Sichuan's bamboo forests, starting from Shaoxing.
This was no ordinary team-building trip.
We chose Yibin, one of China's richest regions in bamboo resources. Here, 3 million mu (approximately 200,000 hectares) of bamboo forests provide the raw materials for Wofang's Bamboo Lyocell fabric series. When designers and the sales team touched the bamboo that would become the fabric, the phrase "natural fiber," usually on their lips, suddenly took on real weight.
During the three-day trip, we visited local bamboo farmers' cooperatives to understand the cyclical patterns of sustainable harvesting; we toured the bamboo fiber primary processing workshop, where every step from bamboo chips to pulp instilled a deeper respect for the product. Xiao Zhou from the sales department said, "Now, when I explain the eco-friendly properties of bamboo Lyocell to clients, I can tell the whole story of this entire mountain."
Of course, the bamboo forest hike, bonfire party, and bamboo-grove farmhouse dinner allowed the team to completely relax after the busy exhibition season. The best team can withstand the pressure of peak season shipments together, and also watch the sunrise over the bamboo forest at 5 a.m. together.
On the return flight, the designer already had a stack of hand-drawn sketches of inspiration-imagining the textures of light and shadow on the fabric.
This trip further convinced us that good fabrics are never calculated from drawings, but rather grow from a real piece of land.
